Improving your web presence

search the webTrying to get your company website to appear high in the search engine listings can be a bit difficult.

Once your website is up and running you should submit it to the main search engines.  To add your site to Google go http://www.google.com/addurl/.

To add your site to MSN go to http://submitit.bcentral.com/msnsubmit.htm

The majority of search engines will allow you to submit your website for inclusion, although some may require you to register with them first.

ONLINE BUSINESS DIRECTORES

One of the best ways to make your site more visible to search engines is to add your site to one of the many free online directories.

As a starting point make sure your business is listed at www.dmoz.org

Dmoz is the Internet's largest directory system (over 3 million web sites) and is maintained by volunteer human editors. A web site listing in Dmoz can also be an important part of having a web site rank well in Google, because Google uses Dmoz results in it's own directory.  It can take quite a while though before your site will be added to the Dmoz directory.

There are a number of free online directories, some a lot better than others, and some are only free for a basic listing, and you may receive marketing calls trying to get you to pay for an 'enhanced' listing.

Freeindex.co.uk is a free business directory that we use to add our sites to. We've found it very easy to use to add a listing, and it's totally FREE.

UK Free Directory - FreeIndex.co.uk FreeIndex.co.uk have been providing free business advertising since 2003. Their site allows any UK business to add their business for free. Once signed up, you get your own dedicated page with your business details, description and map. You can also change any of your information at any time you want and you only have to do it once. There are further upgrades available to further enhance your page, and apart from time, the whole process is 100% free. Businesses can upload their company logo, list their products and services and get customer reviews. It's just like having your own mini-website on one page.

On top of that, there's a good chance that once you've added your business, it will feature highly in search engine results giving you the internet exposure you want and hopefully bring you qualified business leads.
